How to apply for a Four Winds Foundation grant
Four Winds Foundation funds sport, community, health, education, arts and environment groups across New Zealand. Applications close on the 25th of each month. Here is what you need to have ready.

- Typical grant
- $2,000 to $15,000
- Next cut-off
- 25 October 2026, then 25 November 2026
- Decision
- The Grants Committee meets the last week of the following month
- Form length
- 46 questions
- Quotes

Who can apply
- A non-profit incorporated society, or a group with another legal status.
- Registered charities are preferred.
- Your organisation needs to have been operating for at least 12 months.
- You can make up to 4 applications in any rolling 12 months.
What it funds
- Sport and community projects.
- Health, welfare and rescue services.
- Education, arts and environment work.
Apply well ahead. The October round is for funding needed from December to February, and the November round for January to March.
Documents to have ready
- A pre-printed deposit slip or bank certification.
- A resolution or committee minutes approving the application.
- Your Certificate of Incorporation or confirmation of charitable status.
- Your trust deed, constitution or rules, plus a list of current trustees.
- A list of current board or committee members.
- Your latest signed annual financial accounts.
- Two competitive quotes for each item.
- Affiliation confirmation, if you are affiliated to a regional or national body.
- Itineraries or invitations, if you are asking for travel.
- Signed employment contracts, if you are asking for salaries.
- The signed Declaration of Consent and a cover letter.
Mistakes that cost you a round
- Using the wrong cut-off. One part of the Four Winds apply page mentions the last working day of the month. Its funding schedule and Who Can Apply page use the 25th. Work to the 25th.
- Only one quote. Four Winds asks for two competitive quotes per item.
- Applying too often. The limit is 4 applications in a rolling 12 months, so plan which projects matter most.
Can you pay someone to help?
Yes, on a flat fee or hourly rate paid whatever the outcome. What is not allowed is paying a share of the grant. The fee never goes in your grant budget and is never paid from grant money. Your organisation is always the applicant and submits under its own login.
Want this one written for you?
We draft the full application, budget, impact statement, support letters and calendar within 3 working days. You check it, sign it and submit it under your own login. No success fees, ever.
